วัตถุประสงค์
1. To determine the dynamics of tourism from the FSU countries to Thailand in 2020-2024, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical and economic transformations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. To estimate the share of tourists from the former Soviet Union in the total flow in Thailand as a whole and its individual regions. To highlight the factors of tourism development, including visa-free regime and transportation links with the countries of the former USSR. To determine the peculiarities of the visa or visa-free regime of Thailand with the main countries of the former USSR, as well as the impact of the type visa or visa-free regime on the scale of tourism. Analysing agreements between states and touristic companies from the former Soviet Union and Thailand on tourism development. Analyze the socio-demographic composition of tourist flows by type of trip, gender, age, profession, income, areas of origin in the countries of the former USSR. Determination of the socio-demographic portrait of the “average tourist” from the countries of the former USSR.
2. To determine the economic and geographical features of travel and expenditures of tourists from the former Soviet Union in the key tourist regions of Thailand - Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Hua Hin, Krabi, Samui and others. To describe the structure of the tourist segment of the Russian-speaking economy in key tourist regions from the former Soviet Union. To determine the features of organization and functioning of the tourist segment of the “Russian-speaking economy” in Thailand, including types of Russian-speaking companies and types of tourist services provided by them.
3. To estimate the contribution of tourists from the former Soviet Union to the economy of Thailand as a whole and some key regions based on the author's methodology. The author's methodology presents an estimate of the contribution of tourism to domestic regional product for the regions of Thailand and is based on a modernisation of P. Martin's approach to estimating the contribution of labour migration to GDP. The formula is as follows. To determine the positive and negative aspects of socio-economic and socio-cultural impact of tourism from the former Soviet Union on the main regions and settlements of Thailand. Identify negative practices in the tourism industry related to tourists from the former Soviet Union (overstayed visas, visa-run, informal employment, etc.). Formulation of recommendations for tourism development between the countries of the former USSR and Thailand.

The project will obtain detailed information on the geographical and socio-demographic composition of tourists from the former USSR countries; determine the contribution of tourism to the economy; determine the potential of tourism from the former USSR countries and give a forecast for the medium term until 2030; and develop recommendations for attracting tourists from the former USSR countries to Thailand.
