วัตถุประสงค์
The MIND-MATTERS project aims to improve maternal and mental health outcomes for adolescent mothers through community-based, gender-transformative implementation research. Specifically, the project will: (1) Empower adolescent mothers by strengthening life skills, psychosocial resilience, and decision-making capabilities; (2) Increase equitable access to integrated SRHR and mental health services; (3) Reduce stigma and exclusion through family, provider, and community engagement; and (4) Generate evidence and promote youth-led advocacy to inform inclusive, scalable policy and service models.
Specific Objectives
1. To enhance the agency, resilience, and life skills of adolescent mothers through empowerment interventions grounded in gender equality and inclusion.
2. To assess and improve equitable access to integrated SRHR and mental health services among adolescent mothers through participatory service co-design and implementation.
3. To reduce stigma and social exclusion by engaging families, communities, and service providers in inclusive, context-responsive awareness and capacity-building initiatives.
4. To generate and apply evidence on gender power relations and implementation processes that influence adolescent mothers’ decision-making and access to care, informing policy and program adaptation.
These objectives directly respond to Theme 2 of the IDRC call for proposals by addressing the urgent need to integrate psychosocial and mental health support into maternal and perinatal care for adolescents. The project focuses on adolescent mothers, a critically underserved group, and incorporates a gender-transformative and intersectional approach throughout. Objective 1 explicitly targets gender equality and inclusion. All objectives are embedded within a rigorous hybrid effectiveness–implementation research design to ensure that both outcomes and implementation processes are systematically evaluated and positioned for scale and use.
